  • Mission: School of Electronic & Computer Engineering
    in Greece Databases and office automation are at the heart of any serious company or organization today in advanced countries and the effective operation of these organizations is based on specialized knowledge for database design and management which our graduates have Our graduates can also apply Artificial Intelligence techniques on complex problems in order to process by computer many complex problems which to date are only addressed by highly qualified human experts Our students are educated on new methods of analysis and design of electrical electronic and logic circuits More specifically they learn the theory and the operation fundamentals of basic electronic components e g diodes transistors how to design circuits which include analog and digital integrated circuits how to design power amplifiers and high frequency e g RF circuits They also learn how to design Very Large Scale Integration VLSI circuits The students practice the above skills both on Computer Aided design CAD stations and on the workbench They also learn how to design systems with sensors which demand reliable operation under adverse conditions such as those met in industry and the learn how to effectively use microprocessors and microcontrollers for the design and implementation of real time and embedded systems Telecommunications are rapidly expanding world wide The ECE School graduates gain in depth knowledge on subjects such as digital telecommunications antennas microwaves wireless communications satellite communications wireless and wired telephony mobile telephony information and code theory computer networks as well as on modern applications of telecommunications based on automated voice recognition and speech processing and understanding voice based selection database access with voice interface etc so that they can work in the public or private sector Computer networks transport voice still and video images and computer to computer data Computer networks are very important for the public and

    areas of electronics automatic control systems computer science and telecommunications The goal of the School is for the students to develop a sound theoretical background which will enable them to understand the fundamentals of the new technologies in all of the above areas so that they can cope with the demands and the rapid pace of technology growth at an international level Areas of Concentration for Coursework The coursework of the School is organized in five areas of concentration These areas are the following Electronics and Computer Architecture ACE The material covered in this areas includes the analysis and design of analog and digital electrical and electronic systems computer hardware computer architecture microprocessors real time systems digital systems building and CAD tool development This area is covered by the Division of Electronics and Computer Architecture Systems SYS The material covered in this area includes control systems theory automatic control image and voice data processing biomedical engineering and quality control This area is covered by the Division of Systems Telecommunications TEL The material covered in this area includes telecommunication systems telephony systems antennas microwaves information and code theory computer communication networks wireless communication networks computer networks voice recognition and speech processing

    the material Undergraduate studies last for ten semesters and they include a semester long diploma thesis during the last semester with no course load during that semester Coursework is divided in two categories Mandatory or core courses Restricted optional courses Regarding registration transfers placement etc to the Schools of the Technical University of Crete compliance with the Greek Law which allows for placement in years of study the 1st and 2nd semesters are considered to be the first year of study the 3rd and 4th semesters are considered to be the second year of study and so on up to the 10th semester Curriculum The detailed curriculum of each School in Greek universities is updated as needed at the end of the spring semester of each academic year and applies as of the following academic year The curriculum entails The titles of the core courses and the restricted optional courses The number of hours per week for lectures for each course The numer of hours per week for tutorial sessions for each course The number of hours per week for laboratory exercises The number of credit hours of each course Each semester long course has a number of credit hours The recommended sequence of courses which is given in the curriculum and their distribution in semesters is optional and it is not mandated Nonetheless it corresponds to a nominal flow under normal study conditions it accounts for the minimum number of semesters towards graduation and it takes into account the recommended prerequisite courses in order for a student to attend each course as provided in Greek Law Ν 1268 82 article 24 paragraph 4 This sequence constitutes the nominal program of studies of the School and it secures the most natural and recommended sequence of registration in courses so that

    ECE School has been published in the Greek Government Newspaper where Greek laws are published in issue FEK 243 December 3 1997 which states that The graduate of the School defined as Diploma holding Electronic Engineer and Computer Engineer has the right to work on the study design analysis implementation supervision of construction maintenance research supervision of operation and expert appraisement reports for every kind of electronic and computer systems their installations and their applications in general in the following scientific areas Electronics and in particular electronic apparatuses and systems such as the design of analog and digital circuits sensors electronics for power systems integrated circuits electroacoustic systems measurement and data processing systems optoelectronic apparatuses and the applications of the above Telecommunications and Telecommunication Systems which include in particular wired and wireless communications information communication or transmission switch and routing centers wired and wireless communication networks multiplexing systems mobile telephony satellite systems and every kind of similar application thereof Information Systems which includes electronic computers as means of data storage and information processing their design or construction or application in production or operation or other process or the offer of services in industry in office automation or agencies in telecommunications
