    the Root Zone Method for treating its pig wastewater The pilot plant has been constructed to treat a daily flow of 30 50 m 3 d The sedimentation of the slurry mixed with a lot of water takes place in a big lagoon where it stays for about 60 days The lagoon overflow comes into the Root Zone plant by natural flow Here takes place the biological treatment not only of the carbon organic matter but simultaneously also for the nitrogen organic mater Although this wastewater is very problematic the results are very successful Thus by 45 75 COD degradation also a 60 65 Nitrogen dissimilation occurs simultaneously These results not only show the possibility of a successful treatment of the pig slurry but also because of these up to now unknown phenomenon that means that much less surface than in the beginning believed it will be needed The financial implications to this are enormous for the pig breading industry But also the environmental impacts are huge because of the degradation of very heavily loaded wastewater The results of the surveying of this pilot project for 1 year have been presented at the 1st International Conference on Hazardous Waste Management

    ποσότητες νερού υπόκεινται σε καθίζηση των στερεών μερών τους σε μία τάφρο όπου παραμένουν για διάστημα 60 ημερών Τα υγρά από την υπερχείλιση της τάφρου εισέρχονται στην εγκατάσταση του Ριζικού Συστήματος με ελεύθερη ροή και καθαρίζονται από το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του ρυπαντικού φορτίου τους Οι εκροές της εγκατάστασης του Ριζικού Συστήματος εκβάλουν σε μία λίμνη που κατασκευάστηκε ειδικά για να δέχεται τις εκροές να εξομοιώνει το υδραυλικό φορτίο και να βελτιώνει τον βαθμό καθαρισμού Το σημαντικότερο πρόβλημα με τα κτηνοτροφικά απόβλητα είναι η ρύπανση που προκαλούν με τις αζωτούχες και οι φωσφορικές ενώσεις τους Τα αποτελέσματα της πιλοτικής εγκατάστασης είναι ο ταυτόχρονος καθαρισμός των χοιροτροφικών λυμάτων τόσο για τα ανθρακικά όσο και για τα αζωτούχα ρυπαντικά φορτία Αυτό είναι ένα φαινόμενο άγνωστο μέχρι στιγμής Η αποικοδόμηση του COD ανέρχεται σε 45 75 με ταυτόχρονη αποικοδόμηση του ολικού Αζώτου κατά 60 65 Αυτά τα αποτελέσματα δείχνουν εκτός από την δυνατότητα μίας επιτυχημένης επεξεργασίας των χοιροτροφικών λυμάτων επίσης την τεράστια εξοικονόμηση σε μέγεθος επιφάνειας των εγκαταστάσεων Επίσης τα λεπτής υφής στερεά μέρη των αποβλήτων μπορούν να επεξεργάζονται σε μία εγκατάσταση εδαφοποίησης μέσα στο ίδιο το Ριζικό Σύστημα εξοικονομώντας ακόμα περισσότερη έκταση και χρήματα αφού τότε εκλείπει η τάφρος καθίζησης Οι θετικές οικονομικές
