    learning programmes are open to staff throughout the Bank s internal network This mode of training delivery is in harmony with the Bank s commitment to fostering environmentally friendly policies 2 Participation in external programmes in Greece and abroad To keep abreast of the latest developments in the banking sector some of NBG s personnel attend seminars and congresses organized by leading vocational training institutions in Greece and abroad These institutions enable us to supplement the knowledge acquired from our in house training resources 3 Vocational training NBG attributes great importance to life long learning and personal and career development for all its personnel In this context the Bank supports through subsidies and other means the acquisition of professional qualifications and postgraduate programmes in specific fields 4 Foreign Language Programmes NBG supports the learning and improvement of competence skills in foreign languages especially English so as to enable personnel to cater for clients needs and further improve the quality of services offered 5 Training personnel in other NBG Group companies NBG seeks to support the training needs of personnel in the various companies of the Group abroad as this serves to strengthen its leading presence in the Balkans and SE Europe 6 EU Programmes These programmes are funded directly by the EU or via the Community Support Framework for our country Assessing the feasibility of participation in EU sponsored programmes related to staff training or other areas that may be of particular interest to the Bank enables the Human Resources Training Division to provide the best possible training opportunities to the organization 7 Other Activities Our training activities extend to a host of other areas such as Mini conferences addressed to small and medium sized enterprises on ways to carry out business in today s economic environment Participation in the EU Youth Entrepreneurship Programme in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Lifelong Learning and the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises Internships for students at undergraduate level so that they can carry out practical training depending on their course requirements Tab2 Content 1 Background In a pioneering move for Greece at the time NBG first set up a dedicated personnel executive selection team in 1968 with the assistance of UK business consultants Since 1996 this team has functioned as a Sub Division of the HR Development Division It functions as a dedicated unit with its own regulations which include a strict set of procedures for the selection training and continuous development of the specialized personnel who form the team 2 Activities Personnel Selection uses cutting edge methods for personnel selection and career development in order to Elicit professional competences and skills and make propositions regarding suitable placements taking into account the current and future needs of the organization Develop programmes for career succession planning as well as talent management taking into account the capabilities expertise professional skills and special qualifications of the employees of the Bank Design personal development plans Select employees and executives for managerial positions in line with specific

the Greek financial system and its commitment to its strategy focused on satisfying customer needs and contributing to the financial development of Greece The international recognition of NBG as the best bank in Greece by Global Finance followed the Best Bank in Greece 2013 award conferred upon the Bank by Euromoney magazine last July as part of its Awards for Excellence 2013 NBG Best Bank in Greece 2013 NATIONAL BANK OF GREECE was named Best Bank in Greece by international finance magazine Euromoney as part of its Awards for Excellence 2013 awarded for the 23rd year In awarding its Awards for Excellence Euromoney collects and assesses qualitative and quantitative data on the performance of every bank The award serves to recognize and single out those banks that have forged a leading and dynamic profile in the global and local markets where they conduct business and have outperformed their peers According to Euromoney against a particularly harsh economic backdrop NBG has taken initiatives to strengthen its capital position with the recent completion of its share capital increase while it has also significantly reduced its operational costs and improved its liquidity and its loan to deposits ratio This international award serves to vindicate yet again NBG s strategic orientation with the further consolidation of its position in the Greek banking system enabling it to category Best Bank 2011 in the context of the Business Awards HRIMA George Ouzounis Award for NBG s CSR Report For the fourth consecutive year the University of the Aegean assessed the annual CSR Reports published by 40 Greek businesses representing the full range of economic activity in the country Following the assessment NBG was presented with an award gaining third place in the final rating alongside two other businesses with a score of 43 This score refers to the top business assessment since the implementation of the constitution by the University of the Aegean BRAVO 2011 an Open Debate on Sustainable Growth Within the context of BRAVO 2011 an Open Debate on Sustainable Growth the Bank s 2009 CSR Report received special commendation as one of the best 5 companies in approach Best balanced approach to financial social and environmental issues The NBG s participation in BRAVO constitution is a communication tool to the shareholders regarding to the Sustainable Development that presented in this CSR report The BRAVO constitution contributes towards continuous communication for Sustainable Development between organizations which publish CSR reports and their shareholders focus in the conception and their understasting which are presented in the CSR Report in accordance with each sector which the company is active In this constitution participate representatives from different social groups as academic business and institutional entities as well as and local authorities press and several NGOs Moreover the validation of the selectiveness is certified by the assurance and advisor services which participate and control all the steps of the procedure The communication results are considered in the process of continuous improvement of CSR Report Marketing Excellence Awards NBG was awarded first prize in the Customer Relationship Management category for its Alerting Customer Update System The awards were hosted by the Hellenic Institute of Marketing EIM of the Hellenic Management Association HMA with the scientific support of the Greek Marketing Academy The goal of these awards is to showcase companies that have achieved exceptional performance in the application of integrated and effective marketing programmes Award for the Bank s Investor Relations The Investor Relations Division of NBG was voted as Best Investor Relations by a analysts contributed NBG receives top prize in Famous Brands 2011 survey For the fifth year in succession NBG was named the top banking brand in Greece in 2011 according to the results of the Famous Brands 2011 survey carried out by the Reputation Management Institute in collaboration with the international οrganization of Reputation Institute The survey was carried out on a representative sample of the population 1 022 individuals Consumers were asked to choose the companies with the best reputation in each of the 33 product categories in the survey StatBank 2011 Outward Oriented Leaders Award According to the bank s evaluation for the economy and business NBG was awarded by StatBank the Outward Oriented Leaders prize for being the Greek based financial institution with the greatest number of overseas branches during 2010 Awards Distinctions 2010 CSR Prize from the CR Index NBG received the CR Index award from the Institute of Corporate Responsibility for its initiatives to include CSR in its business strategy by integrating actions designed to benefit the community the environment its employees and the market The reward recognises the high level of Corporate Responsibility displayed by the Bank in 2010 reflecting our social and environmental awareness our performance in the market and the working environment continuing a 170 year tradition of contributing to the community at large The CR Index is internationally the most important measure of the performance of corporations in the field of CSR and indeed serves as the national CSR index in various countries As a leading evaluation tool it serves as a benchmark for CSR performance in four specific areas the Community the Environment the Employees and the Market The evaluation process for the CR Index is undertaken by independent assessors trained by Business in the Community BITC the British organisation that launched the Index Award for our CSR Report 2009 For the 2nd consecutive year the quality of the Bank s accountability was commended by the University of the Aegean More specifically the Bank s 2009 CSR Report received an award at the CSR Reporting Forum 2010 The relative performance of the 2009 CSR Report was assessed on the basis of a methodology for rating CSR Reports developed by the Department of Environmental Studies of the University of the Aegean in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative guidelines The Department of Environmental Studies of the University of the Aegean evaluates all Greek CSR Reports prepared and published in accordance with the guidelines of Global Reporting Initiative GRI G3 The results of this evaluation process are announced on an annual basis Best Company 2010 and Best Bank 2010 The Bank was awarded two first prizes in the HRIMA George Ouzounis 2010 Business Awards held for the 8th consecutive year at the Conference Centre of the headquarters of Ethniki Insurance as part of the Greek Investment Forum 2010 Altogether     art and education in each country of operation Independence All the CSR Action of the Bank and its subsidiaries is undertaken independently of any individual customer shareholder or other related party interest The Bank and its subsidiaries do not provide direct or indirect contribution or funding to political parties CSR Action Areas The NBG Group s CSR Action reflecting NBG s CSR values is implemented in the following major areas 1 The community The Bank and its subsidiaries seek to extend support to social solidarity programmes to the work of widely respected bodies and organizations addressing social issues and to vulnerable social groups and individuals Their contribution is translated into sponsorships for awards scholarships research publication of various works books and special editions support of scientific work particularly conferences covering the full range of the sciences Their support and assistance extends also to various organizations promoting environmental protection and sustainable development which reflects NBG s commitment to contributing to an environmentally sustainable future for all They also provide for knowledge and research needs offering books to the libraries of various Universities Technological Institutes and other social organizations and NBG owned IT equipment to educational and social foundations Lastly they sponsor various national and international athletic events such as the organization of meetings and sports federations as well as individual athletes for their preparation and participation in international championships and Olympic Games 2 Culture The Bank and its subsidiaries support music and the visual and performing arts through contributions to various cultural activities and events and sponsorships for encouraging and promoting historical and cultural awareness and continuity the preservation and restoration of monuments archaeological excavations and publications of cultural and historical interest They further contribute to the organization of various conferences and other investment and finance related events by offering support and assistance including availability of NBG premises to third parties for events They provide for the recording maintenance preservation and enrichment of the works of art belonging to NBG s Art Collection lending works of art to various cultural bodies for their participation in various exhibitions in Athens or elsewhere in Greece as well as digital photographs of works of art to various bodies and individuals 3 The Environment The Bank and its subsidiaries consistently implement NBG s policy for environmental protection and sustainable development with a view to contributing to the staff s and in turn shareholders and customers awareness of environmental issues The Bank monitors and constantly improves its Environmental Management System in compliance with international standard ISO 14001 and in line with international trends It also provides for compliance with the relevant environmental legislation and integrates environmental protection standards into NBG business setting targets on the basis of appropriate criteria and assessing the direct and indirect impact of its activities on the environment NBG s Environmental Management System focuses on the conservation of natural resources the rationalization of work related travel and commuting the effective management of paper and reduction of solid waste the adoption of environmental
