    and to assist with the compensation of motor accident victims This System is based upon the compulsory motor vehicle Third Party Liability insurance and its aim is To assist in the circulation of vehicles outside their frontier with the use of an internationally recognized insurance cover certificate the Green Card or alternatively the International Motor Insurance Certificate To guarantee that the victims of motor vehicle accidents caused in Greece by motor vehicles originating from the countries participating in the Green Card system are not in a disadvantageous position due to the fact that the damaging vehicle is foreign A professional organisation called Motor Insurers Bureau has been established in every country member of the System and aims To be responsible for the issuance of International Insurance Certificates Green Cards and to supply them to the insurance companies that are members of that Bureau To handle and settle losses that are caused in its country by foreign motor vehicles which are insured for Third Party Liability or which are deemed to be insured because they belong to a country of Section ΙΙΙ of the Internal Regulations among the Bureaux There are 45 countries that are currently participating in this System with the corresponding National Insurers Bureau which have signed the International Agreements which regulate the System s proper implementation and operation The Internal Regulations Règlement Général is the latest agreement that was set into force on 1 7 2003 and has replaced all the previous ones the Uniform Agreement and the Multilateral Guarantee Agreement The System is coordinated by the Council of Bureaux a supreme non governmental authority that is recognized by the U N and the E U directives The Green Card System Joomla Templates and Joomla Extensions by JoomlaVision Com About Internal Regulations Member Bureaux of the System Member

    Greece Information about an accident abroad News Links Useful Documentation Contact us You are here Home Registration of a member company Registration of a member company The members of the Greek MIB are 91 All insurance companies conducting motor vehicle liability insurance whether headquartered in Greece or abroad and whether they provide insurance cover through their establishment in Greece or through the Free Provision of Services art 28 Law 489 76 are compulsorily and ipso jure members of the Motor Insurers Bureau Greece The members financial obligations are Payment of the sum of 3 000 to the Motor Insurers Bureau for the subscription fee Financial participation which is paid on a two monthly basis by the 15 th day of the following month and calculated on the basis of the insured vehicles as follows 14 in respect of the insurance premiums from the Third Party Liability insurance for International Transportation Trucks T I R in Greece 0 40 in respect of the insurance premiums from the Third Party Liability insurance for all the other categories The financial obligations to the MIB are specified in article 33 paragraphs 3 a and b and 4 of L 489 76 Motor Insurers Bureau

    on the Insurance Policy and registration plates The Internal Regulations have provided for the appointment of correspondents of foreign insurance Companies In the event that the foreign Insurance Company has an appointed Correspondent in Greece the Motor Insurers Bureau is qualified to indicate to you the competent correspondent in Greece of the foreign Insurance Company that will undertake the settlement of the claim under the supervision of the Motor Insurers Bureau and always according to the terms of the Internal Regulations Click here Correspondents of Foreign Insurance Companies to search the nominated correspondents of the foreign insurance undertakings in Greece In the event that the foreign Insurance Company has not appointed a Correspondent in Greece the settlement is taken care of by the Greek Bureau which appoints a Greek Insurance Company member of the MIB to handle the case Insurance Cover Investigation The Police Authority or Insurance Company that have recorded or have been notified of an accident in Greece involving a vehicle with foreign registration plates is obliged to immediately notify the Motor Insurers Bureau in writing regarding the vehicle s country of origin registration number and all insurance data of the vehicle s involved Article 32 Law 489 76 However there is a possibility that the Police Authority does not record all relevant and necessary information or that the circumstances of the accident do not allow the proper collection of insurance cover information e g when the foreign driver has abandoned the place of accident In this case and provided that the foreign vehicle is normally based in a country that belongs to Section III of the Internal Regulations the Motor Insurers Bureau will conduct an investigation as long as some vehicle identification data is available e g registration number make model country of origin with the corresponding
