    also charged to operate as the Greek component of the European Infrastructure for Arts and Humanities DARIAH DYAS is designed as a distributed infrastructure with members at distinct levels of involvement management nodes providing the services of the infrastructure and setting the specifications for digital resources curators responsible for specific collections and added value repositories affiliates providing selected metadata for ingestion by the management nodes In addition to members external users can subscribe to specific services of the network thus widely offering the benefits of DYAS and DARIAH services to researchers educators and collection managers By promoting standards interoperability frameworks common practices authorities and services DYAS intends to foster interdisciplinary activities and to establish links with thematic infrastructures such as ARIADNE The services being developed by DYAS fall in four groups sharing digital resources through a set of data person metadata vocabulary and software registries support for resource development through a series of guidelines and specialized tools contributing to DARIAH services by participating in specific tasks of the Virtual Competency Centres a digital humanities observatory to support continuous monitoring and recording of the advances in the field and to undertake dissemination actions The service architecture involves layers of common curation

    the web web based while the main technologies used are PHP Java JSP MySQL Digital preservation strategy of MOPSEUS follows a set of rules that aim towards a long term storage and access to the digital objects with respect to small and middle sized institutions It supports basic functions namely ingestion access storage and data management as well as searching modifying and purging data The content model used in Mopseus is very flexible allowing various ways for structuring objects Thus the information model followed is independent to its scope to the highest possible extent This model is as follows All entities in Mopseus are digital objects A special class of digital evidence containers is used in order to organize the information digital evidence Containers can be interconnected between them using semantic connections so that they can form from simple to complex hierarchies of graphs Each digital object can include an unlimited number of metadata and or digital data files Mopseus supports the use of multiple metadata schemas per digital object Metadata can be depicted either as XML or RDF triples Moreover it allows semantic relationships between objects which are imported via graphical interfaces while their definition is simply and easily

    a digital space where they can undertake innovative exploration and analysis of Europe s digitised content Europeana needs to get closer to the target of 30 million items by 2015 Europeana Cloud meets these needs The key objectives of Europeana Cloud are To provide access at Europeana to 1 1m new metadata records and 5m research focussed items from across European Universities libraries data centres and publishers To create a cloud based infrastructure capable of delivering cost efficient content and metadata storage for stakeholders across Europe To understand and incorporate the legal strategic and economic issues of a cloud based system for content for cultural heritage institutions and domain aggregators To achieve a broad consensus among European content aggregators and research networks on the advantages of a cloud based solution To develop a digital platform named Europeana Research to discover and use Europeana research content Via this cloud to provide tools and services for researchers that permit innovative research that exploits digitised content in Europeana This is a vital project for the Europeana network of content providers and aggregators moving to an infrastructure that can deal not just with descriptive metadata but actual digitized content as well In Europeana Cloud DCU is leading the Work Package responsible for Assessing Researcher Needs in the Cloud and Ensuring Community Engagement which will be responsible for The identification and definition of the Humanities and Social Sciences research communities that will be supported via the Europeana Cloud The development of an effective research content strategy for Europeana based on an evidence based account of usefulness of Europeana and The European Library resources for research in the Humanities and Social Sciences The improvement of the understanding of digital tools research processes and content used in the Humanities and Social Sciences thus informing the development of

    Αθηνών ARK4 NeMO 3D ICONS CARARE EHRI Preparing DARIAH Promotion of the work of the Research Centres of the Academy of Athens on the World Wide Web Digital Curation Unit Athena R C took part as concessionaire in the project Promotion of the work of the Research Centres of the Academy of Athens on the World Wide Web In the context of this project an integrated web based service was developed and implemented which permits the interactive display of the material from 11 Research Centres of the Academy of Athens The primary aim of the project was the use of modern technologies of the World Wide Web in order to present in a consistent thematic way the diverse material and documentation included in 43 collections maps names of places prosopographies ethnographic material material related to modern Greek terms and dialects index of byzantine and meta byzantine wall paintings bibliographies various editions etc totally amounting in approximately 500 000 pages Digital Curation Unit made use of the MOPSEUS digital library to offer operations of administration of metadata and semantic access association of digital objects definition of hierarchies etc while in the same time it contributed to the dynamic geographical chronological and

    modelling of scholarly practices performed by the Digital Curation Unit in projects DARIAH EHRI and Europeana Cloud NeMO incorporates existing relevant taxonomies of scholarly methods and tools such as TaDIRAH the arts humanities net and Oxford taxonomies of ICT methods DHCommons CCC IULA UPF and DiRT through appropriate mappings of the concepts defined therein onto a semantic backbone of NeMO concepts It thus enables combining documentary elements on scholarly practices of different perspectives and using different vocabularies The outcome of the project includes the ontology delivered in both document and machine readable forms and a Web service comprising a database containing the ontology definition and the appropriate functionality to support access to and evolution of the ontology In document form the ontology includes definitions of entities and properties and examples of occurrence and use in the style of ISO standard 21127 CIDOC CRM the dominant ontology for documentation in the cultural domain In machine readable form the ontology is defined in RDFS RDF Schema in order to support its use in a wide range of applications accessing registries and knowledge bases that contain information about methods and their context of use Furthermore the taxonomic parts of the ontology comply with SKOS Simple Knowledge Organization System The compliance with standards indicated above caters for syntactic as well as semantic interoperability between future registries and applications employing this methods ontology and other CIDOC CRM and SKOS compliant information systems in the arts and humanities and in libraries museums and archives The Web service has been implemented and is hosted by DCU see http nedimah dcu gr The Web service offers graphical navigation through the concepts along with textual definitions faceted access to the ontology elements examples use cases and tabular presentations of mappings from the DH Commons Oxford ICT and TaDiRAH taxonomies
