    act of Higher Educational Institutions 2 the proposal of the Senate of AUTH Reg meeting 2856 6 3 2013 and 3 the Presidential Decree 98 2013 Government Gazette 134 5 6 to 2013 vol A The FHS encompasses the Schools of Medicine Veterinary Medicine Dentistry and Pharmacy Objectives of the Faculty With the implementation of innovative curricula the FHS provides an education that integrates formal classroom knowledge with clinical experience and thereby prepares students for all career options in medicine veterinary medicine dentistry and pharmacy In specific It provides integrated education in medicine veterinary medicine dentistry and pharmacy at the undergraduate postgraduate and professional training levels It promotes basic applied and translational research in the fields of health promotion disease prevention diagnosis and treatment It fosters international collaborations in research and education In addition to its academic and research missions the FHS medical also provides highly skilled clinical care services to the community of Thessaloniki and Northern Greece Finally it is the objective of the FHS to act as a consultant on matters of health and health policy to Health Services and the State Location The FHS is located on the campus of AUTH Its premises also include the following hospitals AHEPA Genimatas Hippokration Papageorgiou Papanikolaou the Psychiatric Hospital and the Hospital for Venereal and Skin Diseases Finally the Clinics of the School of Veterinary Medicine are located at Voutira Street and at the farm of Kolchiko in Lagadas Academic Management Deanery The present deanery of the FHS comprises of Prof George Karakiulakis Dean Prof Alexandros Garyfalos Head of the School of Medicine Prof Harilaos Karatzias Head of the School of Veterinary Medicine Prof George Palagias Head of the School of Dentistry and Prof Christos Panagiotidis Head of the School of Pharmacy Goals of the Deanery The present Deanery is

    It was founded in 1942 during the German occupation of Greece Its foundation was postponed for 17 years compared to Aristotle University The causes of this delay should be sought among others at the resistance by the then local medical status The number of the medical students during the first academic year 1942 43 was 385 274 of whom being males According to the album 63 years of Medical School the difficulty of the elected professors to travel from Athens their dismissal and reassessment after the liberation and the infrastructure deficiencies were some of the major problems that the new Medical School had to face Its first professors were N Michalakeas A Kotsaftis S Samaras N Klisiounis K Iliakis G Pangkalos G Hatzivassiliou G Deligiannis K Alexandridis M Petzetakis P Fotinos and S Veras The main goal of the School of Medicine of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Aristotle University is to educate medical students as well as to provide Greece with health professionals that meet the highest standards Another goal is to make high quality research either by itself or with the collaboration of other Greek or international research centers The contact of the students with research begins early during their undergraduate studies through their participation in various research programs of the laboratories and the departments the outcomes of which are presented mainly in the Conference of the School of Medicine ESISAPTH that is held every two years The main educational goal of the School is the transmission of ethical values that govern the medical practice to students ensuring that they acquire all scientific knowledge that will allow them to diagnose and effectively manage general medical conditions they will have to face after graduation The academic staff of the School of Medicine work in hospitals and other units

    of Birds f Breeding and Pathology of Pigs g Microbiology and Infectious Diseases h Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases i Pathological Anatomy j Veterinary Pathology and k Veterinary Surgery However students were provided with specialization only in Animal Products Hygiene and in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Due to lack of equipment and resources though courses were no longer available after 1985 even in the two fields mentioned above In the academic year 2006 2007 a graduate studies programme was launched Government Gazette 144 8 2 2006 issue Β providing specialization in five fields of study At present a graduate programme is available in Breeding and Pathology of Productive Animals with specialization in two fields a Breeding and Pathology of Ruminants and b Breeding and Pathology of Pigs and Birds A graduate programme in Pet Surgery is also available The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine offers BA Honours degree in Veterinary Medicine upon completion of 10 semesters of study and MA and PhD degrees as part of its graduate studies programme see above The laboratories and the secretariat of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine are located in its building facilities in the main university campus while its clinics are housed in a complex located in 11 Stavrou Voutira street in the west side of the city near the new railway station as well as in the facilities in the university farm located in Kolhiko Langadas The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine consists of administrative and educational research units It is administered by the General Assembly G A the Administrative Board A B the Chair and Vice Chair The General Assembly is the supreme administrative body of the Faculty The General Assembly decides on the curriculum policy and organization of the Faculty issues regarding the exams schedule as well as it examining and dealing with

    students initially being admitted The faculty staff was composed of ten professors and four senior lecturers six of them were members of the teaching personnel of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics and five of them of the Faculty of Medicine Initially two Chairs were founded a the Chair of Pharmaceutical Chemistry with aspects of Pharmacognosy and b the Chair of Pharmaceutical Compounding and Pharmaceutical Technology Moreover two laboratories were established a the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Chemistry with aspects of Pharmacognosy and b the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Compounding and Medicine Control which were initially part of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics Government Gazette Α 205 12 10 1957 Constantinos Makris was the first professor who taught pharmaceutical courses in the School of Pharmacy such as Pharmacognosy Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Compounding In the 1970s and after the retirement of Constantinos Makris 1968 pharmaceutical courses were taught by professor Georgios Fokas Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and by professor Nikolaos Oikonomou Petrovic Pharmaceutical Technology Prescription Compounding In 1983 the two laboratories were incorporated into the School of Pharmacy pursuant to the ministerial decision no Β1 107 Government Gazette Β 73 24 2 1983 Moreover pursuant to the ministerial decision no Β1 211 Government Gazette Β 92 8 3 1983 two departments were established the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology along with the corresponding laboratories In 1983 pursuant to the presidential decree no 130 Government Gazette Α 57 3 5 1983 the School of Pharmacy was incorporated into the Faculty of Human Sciences In 1985 the Department of Pharmacognosy Pharmacology was established pursuant to the ministerial decision no Β1 780a Government Gazette Β 689 15 11 1985 Two years later the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy and the Laboratory of Pharmacology were founded pursuant to the presidential decree 491

    to the initiative taken by the government of Alexandros Papanastasiou the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was founded in 1925 thus becoming the second university in Greece The University of Thessaloniki as it was initially called was founded pursuant to Law no 3341 1925 About 30 years later the Faculty of Engineering was founded 1955 The School of Civil Engineering was the first to open its doors Within a few years the following schools were founded as part of the Faculty of Engineering the School of Architecture in 1956 57 the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering in 1962 63 the School of Chemical Engineering in 1972 73 the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in 1972 73 the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering which was divided into the School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Electrical Engineering in 1976 77 the School of Mathematics Physics and Computational Sciences in 1982 83 the School of Electrical Engineering which was renamed School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1993 94 the School of Spatial Planning and Development Engineering in 2004 The Faculty of Engineering is administered by the General Assembly which is the main administrative body and the Deanship which consists of the Dean and is responsible for implementing the decisions of the Faculty Like all other Faculties of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki the Faculty of Engineering is divided into Schools which are represented by the Chairs at the Deanship Schools are divided into Departments which coordinate research and teaching supported by laboratories Since it was founded the Faculty of Engineering has experienced considerable upheaval but also growth and success it has dealt with all issues that troubled he academic community and has joined its struggles to help the university flourish The Faculty of Engineering has contributed significantly to
