    AUTH Academic calendar Services Culture Student Unions You are here Home School of Chemistry School of Chemistry Head of the School Theodora Choli Papadopoulou Head of the Administration Office Lydia Stavrakaki Address Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Faculty of Sciences School of Chemistry University Campus 54124 Thessaloniki Greece Τ 30 2310 997680 F 30 2310 997642 E http www chem auth gr index php lang en Chemistry has been one of the courses taught in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki since the School of Physics and Mathematics was founded in 1927 Professor Tryphon Karantassis was the first one to teach General Chemistry at the University Three laboratories were founded in the 1940s i e the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory the Organic Chemistry Laboratory and the Physical Chemistry Laboratory The first professors appointed to supervise the abovementioned laboratories were Constantinos Kavassiadis Georgios Varvoglis and Leandros Kapatos respectively The three laboratories were incorporated into the newly founded School of Chemistry in 1943 The School of Chemistry was part of the School of Physics and Mathematics The abovementioned professors were assisted by Constantinos Vasiliades Emmanouil Voyatzakis and Georgios Tsatsaronis who were the first to teach the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory and the Inorganic and Organic Chemical

    Office Aikaterini Tzoumpari Address Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Faculty of Sciences School of Geology 54124 Thessaloniki Greece Τ 30 2310 998450 F 30 2310 998452 E http www geo auth gr index en htm The Geology Petrology and Mineralogy Laboratory and the Meteorology and Climatology Laboratory are both part of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics and opened their doors in autumn 1928 The Geology Petrology and Mineralogy Laboratory was then divided into the Geology and Paleontology Laboratory and the Mineralogy and Petrology Laboratory which were both incorporated into the School of Natural Sciences founded in autumn 1943 The Meteorology and Climatology Laboratory was first incorporated into the School of Physics and later into the School of Geology The School of Natural Sciences trained students in disciplines related to geology and biology New laboratories were founded over a thirty year period such as the Physical Geography Laboratory the Geophysics Laboratory and the Systematic Mineralogy Petrology Laboratory In 1973 the School of Natural Sciences was divided into the School of Geology and the School of Biology The School of Geology was founded in 1973 pursuant to the Royal Decree 290 5 4 1973 and was staffed by graduates of the School of Natural Sciences In 1983 the School of Geology was divided into Departments which coordinate teaching and research offering programmes that train students in a wide variety of disciplines related to their main field of study The number of courses offered increased even further after new laboratories were founded The Paleontology Museum and the Mineralogy and Petrology Museum the Seismological Station and Mount Olympus Meteorological Center are also part of the School of Geology The School ensures that students are given full and comprehensive training on a wide range of topics in geosciences such as Industrial Minerals and Rocks Geographic

    no 3341 1925 article 3 The Faculty of Law and Economics of the Aristotle University unlike the one of the University of Athens was divided into two independent schools a the School of Law and b the School of Economics and Political Sciences In particular the School of Economics and Political Sciences was founded in 1927 pursuant to the presidential decree of 19th November 1927 and was the first to open its doors in 1928 The School of Law was founded in autumn 1930 pursuant to the presidential decree of 30th July 1930 after overcoming difficulties and concerns which sprang from the view held by many government officials and others that founding this school in addition to the one operating at the University of Athens would only exacerbate the already existing problem of the surplus of lawyers in the country The curriculum of the two Schools of the Faculty of Law and Economics was developed in accordance with the Ministerial Decision 152907 30 11 1971 The School of Law focused on promoting research and teaching in the fields of law and political sciences offering different programmes of studies which led to a degree with a specialization either in legal sciences or public law The programme of study of the School of Economics led to a degree in economics Pursuant to Law no 1268 1982 known as the legal framework with regards to Greek universities the Faculty was divided into two independent schools a the School of Law and b the School of Economics which trained students in a wide variety of disciplines related to law and economics In 1999 a new school was founded the School of Political Sciences pursuant to the presidential decree 203 3 9 1999 which first opened its doors in the academic year 2000 2001 Thus

    and Political Sciences Dean Eugenia Petridou Professor School of Economics Wellcoming the visitors of the website of the Faculty of Economic and Political Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki we aim to offer useful information regarding the profile of the Faculty our programmes of study the academic and research output of its members the initiatives and prospects of its constituent Schools The School of Political and Economic Sciences was one of the first academic units that marked the foundation of the University of Thessaloniki in 1925 In particular the School started its operation during the 1928 9 academic year while up until 1971 its programme of study comprised the academic fields of Economic and Political Science within the framework of the Faculty of Law and Economic Sciences With the restructuring of studies in 1971 Political Science was incorporated as a field of study within the School of Law while Economic Sciences constituted the focus of the School of Economic Sciences In 1999 a School of Political Sciences was founded which started receiving students during the 2000 1 academic year and became the third School within the framework of the Faculty of Law Economic and Political Sciences The 2013 restructuring of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki led to the creation of a Faculty of Economic and Political Sciences comprised by the three Schools of Economic Sciences Political Sciences and Journalism Mass Media The respective scientific fields of our three Schools converge in creating the distinct profile of the Faculty as the Social Sciences Faculty of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki At the same time the Faculty hosts cutting edge research and teaching in contemporary orientations in the sub fields of Economic Theory and Policy Economic Development Management Political Theory and Philosophy Political Analysis Journalism and Communication The distinct educational scientific
