    actively promoting student and staff mobility throughout Europe since the ERASMUS programme first steps 25 years ago Today A U Th has approximately 600 active bilateral agreeements with european universities in the frame of LLP ERASMUS A U Th s mobility activities are not limited in the European Union borders Its active involvement in the Erasmus Mundus consortia has made possible the exchange with universities from the Balkans Baltic Sea Mediterranean and Asia An increasing number of students from a wide area of countries and academic fields choose for their postgraduate studies the EM joint masters and doctorates supported by A U Th During the last 25 years more than 11 000 A U Th students have spent a period of their undergraduate postgraduate and doctoral studies at European universities supported by Erasmus programme Moreover after the official launching of Erasmus Placement Action in 2007 200 students have had the opportunity to work for a short period of time at European educational institutions and enterprises The Department of European Educational Programmes guides students through the labyrinth of necessary procedures enhancing in the same time A U Th s presence in European educational networks Since 1987 more than 7 500 foreign students have been attending courses at the majority of A U Th faculties and schools welcomed by the members of its colorful academic and social community The School of Modern Greek Language has been offering a variety of courses helping foreign students find their way in the fascinating landscape of Greek language and culture In the frame of the ERASMUS Programme the staff mobility action offers financial support to encourage the exchange of academics between partner institutions for short periods of teaching Until today more than 3 500 staff members have used this opportunity strengthening A U Th s relationship

    auth gr Founding the Faculty of Theology was part of a plan to found a university in Thessaloniki right after the liberation of the city in 1912 But it took a long time before the plan was implemented because of the turmoil that the country was in Thus the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was founded in 1925 whereas the Faculty of Theology in 1941 In 1964 the Faculty of Theology was divided into three schools those of a Theology b Pastoral Theology and c Ecclesiastical and Social Service Due to insufficient number of students enrolled the School of Ecclesiastical and Social Service soon closed its doors The other two Schools though continued to operate until 1982 under the same administration In accordance with Law no 1268 1982 known as the legal framework with regards to Greek universities the Faculty of Theology was divided into two independent schools a the School of Theology and b the School of Pastoral Theology Each School is administered by the General Assembly Faculty members and teaching assistants were asked to decide on the School they would like to continue to offer their services to Pursuant to the presidential decree 316 Government Gazette 166 6 10 94 the School of Pastoral Theology was renamed School of Pastoral and Social Theology In accordance with Law no 1351 1983 article 6 par 10 graduates of the School of Pastoral Theology of the University of Athens and of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki respectively are qualified for employment in secondary education The library of the Faculty of Theology is well organized and contains a wealth of material Students are also provided with a study room The library is administered by the Deanship of the Faculty Until 1990 the two Schools of the Faculty of Theology jointly published the journal

    the plan was implemented because of the turmoil that the country was in It was due to the initiative taken by the government of Alexandros Papanastasiou that the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was founded in 1925 The university first opened its doors a year later The Aristotle University initially consisted of five faculties that of Theology Philosophy Law Medicine and Physics and Mathematics The Faculty of Philosophy opened its doors in 1926 the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics in 1927 the Faculty of Law in 1928 the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry in 1937 whereas the Faculty of Theology and that of Medicine were founded in 1941 Τhe Faculty of Theology was initially provided with no fewer than ten chairs in General Church History General Ecclesiastical Literature Ecclesiastical Law Introduction to and Interpretation of the Old Testament studying both the original text and the Septuagint Introduction to and Interpretation of the New Testament Systematic Theology Religious Studies and Philosophy Catechetics and the History of Christian Education Liturgics and Ecclesiastical Homiletics Pastoral Theology Confession and Mission Among the first faculty members were Vasileios Ioannidis Introduction to and Interpretation of the New Testament Averkios Papadopoulos Dimitrios Petrakakos Dimitrios Moraitis Homiletics and Liturgics Vasileios Exarchos Catechetics and the Encyclopedia of Theology Constantinos Bonis Patristics Dimitrios Kouimoutsopoulos Ioannis Trakas Religion Studies Gerasimos Konidaris Markos Siotis New Testament Interpretation and History of the New Testament Times Metropolitan Bishop Anthimos Siskos Parthenios Polakis General Church History Several other faculty members were added later Athanasios Hastoupis Introduction to and Interpretation of the Old Testament Ioannis Kalogirou History of Doctrines and of the Ecumenical Movement Panagiotis Christou Patristics Hieronymus Kotsonis Canonical Law and Pastoral Theology Savvas Agouridis Introduction to and Interpretation of the New Testament Evaggelos Theodorou Homiletics and Liturgics Andreas Papageorgakopoulos New Testament Interpretation and History of the New Testament Times Ioannis Anastasiou General Church History Constantinos Kalokiris Christian and Byzantine Archaeology Panagiotis Dimitropoulos Ethics and Christian Sociology Evaggelos Sdrakas Religion Studies Until 1971 classes were held in the old building of the Faculty of Philosophy and also in the basement of the building of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics In accordance with the Ministerial Decision 118737 of 19th December 1963 signed by the then General Secretary of the Ministry of Education Evaggelos Papanoutsos the Faculty of Theology was divided into three schools those of a Theology b Pastoral Theology and c Ecclesiastical and Social Service Students could select from a range of compulsory core and elective courses and attendance was compulsory In accordance with Law No 1268 1982 Government Gazette Α 87 article 6 par 2 Faculties are divided into Schools A School is the basic academic unit which provides students with advanced education in a specific disciplinary area Thus with the changes in education laws the Faculty of Theology was divided into two independent schools a the School of Theology and b the School of Pastoral and Social Theology Faculty members and teaching assistants were asked to decide on the School they would like
