    Administration Services Internal Regulation Network Communications and Information Services LIFE IN AUTH Academic calendar Services Culture Student Unions You are here Home University Farm Address Aristotle University Farm of Thessaloniki 57001 Thermi Thessaloniki Greece Τ 30 2310 473842 F 30 2310 473556 E http www agroctima auth gr The Administration and Management Fund of the Aristotle University Farm was founded pursuant to a law voted in 1936 with the aim to provide the necessary material and technical infrastructure for and support the teaching and research activities carried out at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki It is an independent legal entity of public law supervised by the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs Culture and Sports The University Farm is located near Macedonia Airport on the east side of the city 12km from the city centre The University Farm is where students of the Faculty of Agriculture are provided with laboratory workshops to reinforce lecture material as well as where almost all experimental projects are conducted by undergraduate and postgraduate students where research is carried out by faculty members and where internship takes place Since it was founded in 1936 several thousand students of the Faculty of Agriculture have been trained in its facilities However located both in the main campus and the farm the building facilities of the Faculty of Agriculture are not sufficient to meet current needs Thus plans provide for the construction of new buildings that will enable the relocation of the Faculty of Agriculture to the premises of the University Farm The Farm covers an area of about 180 hectares It consists of experimental fields livestock as well as model agricultural and husbandry units There are also 21 buildings including sports facilities Two of the above buildings classical stone buildings are used

    and Information Services LIFE IN AUTH Academic calendar Services Culture Student Unions You are here Home University Forest Administration and Management Fund Address University Forest Administration and Management Fund Faculty of Forestry and Natural Environment Building Mouschounti and Dimokritou st P O Box 22418 55102 Foinikas Thessaloniki Greece Τ 30 2310 992344 30 2310 992345 F 30 2310 209519 E The University Forest Administration and Management Fund is a legal entity of public law founded with the aim to administer and manage the forests of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki that is the University Forest in Pertouli Trikala and the University Forest in Taxiarchis Chalkidiki The Aristotle University was officially allowed to use the above forests in 1934 with the aim to provide students of the Faculty of Forestry and Natural Environment with training conduct forest studies and research establish model forest farms and develop model forest management methods The University Forest Administration and Management Fund supports the practical training programme offered to students of the Faculty of Forestry and Natural Environment undertakes the maintenance and cleaning of the building facilities at the university forests an area of 0 35 hectares in each forest and provides the necessary material and technical infrastructure produces and implements 10 year plans for managing and developing the university forests increasing their productivity and achieving maximum sustainable yield in accordance with the relevant legislation produces and trades forest products fir and oak timber charcoal firewood etc undertakes forest tasks such as building forest roads creating nurseries and carrying out reforestation activities harvesting the forest upgrading forest areas and carrying out infrastructure projects constructing roads building drains bridges reservoirs and water supply networks conducting ground water seep collection and removal works etc carries out activities with the aim to develop its property adopting multi purpose forestry

    24340 91107 F 30 24340 91109 The University Forest in Pertouli Trikala is a publicly owned forest estate It is located in the Pindos Mountain Range and extends from the western slopes of Koziakas Mt to the northeastern slopes of Boudoura Mt at an altitude of about 3 608 92 to 5 577 42 feet latitude 390 32 39ο 35 and longitude 210 33 21ο 38 It covers and area of 3 296 59 hectares of which 2 361 83 hectares are wooded or partly wooded with fir and pine trees etc 168 22 hectares of bare and barren land 583 71 hectares of mountain grassland 114 00 hectares of flat grassland and 68 83 hectares of other types of land fields settlements etc Self seeded hybrid fir trees dominate the area while there are also small clumps of beech trees oak trees maple trees ostrya trees juniper trees cedar trees lime trees willow trees etc Black scotch and leucodermis pine trees spruce trees and thuja trees have been planted in the forest as well The area is also home to a wealth of fauna including roe deer hares wolves foxes brown bears etc As far as birds are concerned there are mountain partridges woodcocks hawks etc which attract hunters who hunt within the Controlled Hunting Area of Koziakas Mt In order to manage the forest properly the area is orographically structured and divided into 9 zones Braiko Vathi Koromilia Calderimi Lyxa Koziakas Viga Liopeika and Glapatsa Forest products include pine round logs with intact bark or without bark up to two meters long round timber two meters long as well as firewood A number of measures are taken to protect the forest while one of the goals set is to achieve maximum sustainable yield There are also buildings facilities

    industry every year There are mainly deciduous forests in this area which is divided in three zones Quercetalia ilicis Quercetalia pubescentis and Fagetalia These zones are formed based on flora composition altitude petrology soil conditions the exposure and incline of the slopes air temperature and rainfall The area is mostly covered with broad leaved oak trees The flora of the area also includes beech trees black pine trees brutian pine trees and Aleppo pine trees as well as other ligneous plants such as Quercus ilex Erica arborea a plant of beekeeping interest holly oak trees arbutus trees fraxinus trees plane trees willow trees etc Fir trees are very important to the region they are planted by villagers in order to sell them as Christmas trees Villagers have been trading Christmas trees for 30 years There are more than 2 million fir trees in the area offering income opportunities to villagers protecting the land and providing shelter to wildlife Hence there are about 60 ligneous plant species and more than 200 herbaceous plant species The area is also home to rich fauna including large populations of wild boars The animal species displayed in the museum can also be found in the forest Villagers coexist harmoniously with wild boars and refrain from poaching Moreover Mount Cholomontas was granted protection under an EU order mainly with regards to the predator birds living in the forest there are many wildlife shelters in the forest where any form of hunting is forbidden Implementing a different policy for sustainable forestry development focusing on forest preservation and at the same time trying to meet human needs the University Forest Administration and Management Fund has spent money on the following infrastructure A large forest road network Α Β C category A firebreak and water intake network observation posts

    a snack bar The Student Club provides students of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with food accommodation and medical care Food Services There are two big refectories which seat 1 000 and 500 students respectively whereas two smaller refectories seat members of the personnel of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki The University Student Club also provides food services for students of the School of Fine Arts the facilities of which are located in Thermi and Stavroupoli students of the School of Urban Regional Planning and Development Engineering in Veria students of the School of Physical Education and Sports Science in Serres and Thermi as well as for students who attend the clinics of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine During the summer the Student Club offers food services to students of the Faculty of Forestry and Natural Environment who participate in practical field training at the University Forest in Pertouli Trikala and at the University Forest in Taxiarchis Chalkidiki as well as catering for the Kalandra University Camp Today the Student Club is able to provide up to 15 000 meals per day Food services are offered free of charge to undergraduate and postgraduate students who have not been awarded a degree from another Higher Education Institution University or Technological Education Institution and they or their parents are not high income earners as shown on their tax return to Greek expatriates to Cypriots and to other categories of students Our university offers to all affiliated exchange or full time foreign students free meals lunch and supper during work days and only lunch during weekends at the University Student Club The Students restaurant is open throughout the academic year from mid September to the end of June every day from Monday to Sunday For that service students have to submit to the
